Recently, I had the opportunity to go to the Jumex Collection on the outskirts of Mexico City. It was one of those things that was on my to do list, that took me 4 years to accomplish. The wait was worth it, the collection is one of the most interesting art experience that I've had for quite some time.

Here are some links to some information about the collection. The current show is called, La nada y el ser or Nothingness and Being. It is curated by Shamim M. Momin from the Whitney in NYC. The displayed piece is by Banks Violette, entitled: Not Yet Titled (Bergen Chair).

There's a new president and congress didn't approve money for failed car companies, so things are all dire in the U.S. I'm going to try and post pictures from the U.S. during my time there. In Japan it is common to find trees that are hundreds of years old and that have been shaped by generations of caretakers. This gives these 'natural sculptures' a significance that trumps the building of a house. It is one of the joys of living in a city when one comes across an instance such as this.

Shown above is an artwork by Yayoi Kusama on Naoshima Island. For art lovers this island is a must. Located in Southern Japan, it became an art destination through the desires of a weathly industrialist who needed an museum for his extensive art collection. So you do what anyone else would do and call up the famous architect, Tadao Ando to build a museum for you.

You can stay in the hotel, which has been built into the musuem or you can stay in Mongolian inspired 'yurts'. You can imagine which one is more expensive. In the end, you can see art all over the island and it is really quite relaxing and worth the journey.

Here are some examples of Dutch Architecture. The first image is a bicycle parking station in the middle of Rotterdam. The second photo is from Groningen (I think). The last two are from the recent development of Almere, near Amsterdam. As you can see, there are similar characteristics in all the photos, water, flatness and allusions to the principles of modernism.

I am Australian, as my passport tells me. I don't live there though and there are long stretches of time in between my visits - like many Australians that have flung themselves around the world. However, the landscape is distinctive and unforgettable and my memory reminds me that the light is thin and casts everything in a quite contrasting glow. Growing up in 1980s Tasmania leaves a lastly impression on a bloke.

Liminal aims to communicate the sense we all often feel of being on the indistinct edge of greater understanding through an allegorically layered visual vocabulary Rose developed while he hiked distant deserts and dense rainforests and surfed lonely coasts and crowded breaks. Rose's subject matter of oceans, shores, clouds, and rain are relative to his water-based materials including gouache, acrylic, and water-color inasmuch as the content is manifested by itself to talk about itself: the subject of water is rendered in water-based media and manipulated to look beautifully fluid, wet, submerged, and misty.

I'm on the rojo magazine mailing list and this came today and I thought it very pleasant.

(If I ever get around to doing that PHD (too many things do to in the meantime) it is going to be about how people 'learn' a new city and how their previous perceptions match their actual experience and how they then carve out paths and individual maps of a city based on their personality and the things that they like. This article is an example of the type of investigation I would do.)

Purple Magazine (and its relatives) is one of my favorite magazines. I was recently looking at this 1998 issue shown here, and it has remained fresh and extremely relevant in today's visual world. For me, this is the sign of true quality for any object.

Perhaps this issue is so interesting to me because it is a snapshot of creative culture right before it was subsumed by digitalization. Am I nostalgic for this era?
